Overview
An internal web app for a company in the automotive industry. Event applications and the related back-and-forth used to run on paper and fax; this brought all of it into one place. I joined as a frontend engineer on a team of six to seven, starting from nothing — there was no product yet. I worked closely with the backend engineers on the API definitions and how the data should be shaped. About five months from February 2025, and it is still in active use.
Points
- It was my first time using AWS Cognito on real work, so rather than experimenting on the production project I built a small test app first and learned the auth flow there
- As the build progressed, the original API definitions turned out not to cover every case. I worked through the gaps with the backend engineers and we added what was needed
- I also took part in scenario testing, walking through real user paths. That is where I learned that "it works" and "it is usable" are two different things
